We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to provide services to students who are blind or visually impaired. The O&M Specialist will support students in developing safe, independent travel skills across a variety of environments including home, school, and the community.
Conduct O&M assessments to determine students’ travel needs and abilities.
Develop and implement individualized O&M instructional plans in alignment with IEP or 504 goals.
Teach students techniques for safe and effective travel using a long cane, low vision devices, and other tools.
Provide instruction in a range of environments including indoor, outdoor, residential, and public transportation settings.
Collaborate with teachers, vision specialists, families, and related service providers to support student progress and inclusion.
Train staff and family members in appropriate mobility strategies and environmental modifications.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and student progress.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (ACVREP or equivalent).
Experience working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired, particularly school-aged students.
Knowledge of assistive technology and mobility tools (e.g., canes, GPS devices, tactile maps).
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (travel between sites may be required).
Bilingual abilities.
Familiarity with IEP/504 plan development and special education compliance.
CPR/First Aid certification.
